Central midfield is perhaps the 1 position Celtic do not really need any players for - McGregor, Engels & Hatate are all strong central midfield players.
Paulo Bernardo does however look to be slightly unsettled, and you would expect him to move, so he needs to be replaced.
There are so many midfield gems who are internationals under the age of 25 who could join Celtic & be class acts, but here are 10 picked out who look especially promising.
Milan Vukotic, 23, £2m
This has to be the number 1 target! 23, Partizan midfielder, 10 goal contributions in his last 17 Serbian League games, 9 caps for Montenegro. Scored a cracker vs Hibs in Europa Conference qualifier & bossed the game. This lad is prototype Celtic midfield player. Excellent signing.
Sang-yun Kang, 21, £400k
This would be my joint number 1 target to strengthen the midfield. Central midfielder, 3 caps for South Korea, 40 caps for the South Korean Youth teams, under 20 & Olympic team, 100 K1 League Appearances, already a K1 League & Korean Cup Winner. Looks to be in the same class of player as Park Ji Sung - terrific midfield player.
Marin Petkov, 22, £3m
This would be my 3rd choice. Levski Sofia midfielder who at only 22 has already captained Levski on many occasions. 22 caps for Bulgaria already, as well 194 appearances for Levski Sofia with a very impressive 52 goal contributions from midfield. This is the successor to Stan Petrov & would be available for a reasonable price. Would be a great signing.
Lennon Miller, 19, £7m
In an ideal world of economics, this would be the number 1 target for midfield, but we do not live in an ideal world. Young Scottish international who has gone to Udinese & struggled for game time, but as we all know from watching him in the SPFL is a very high level number 8 who wit fit into Celtic perfectly. If available for a decent fee should snap him up, but the fee is the big sticking point - there is no point paying a grossly inflated price-tag - it also does not help him if he signs & has an over-inflated price tag on his back as a target.
Kristiyan Stoyanov, 22, £700k
Defensive midfielder, 3 caps for Bulgaria, 100 appearances for Slavia Sofia - would be a very good signing to strengthen the midfield.
Vasilije Kostov, 17, £3m
Central midfielder, 10 goals in 17 games in the Serbian League this season, 1 cap for Serbia already, has scored against Porto in Europe. This lad is a superstar - even though young player would walk into the team & be a fantastic signing.
Adriano Jagusic, 20, £1.5m
20, Slaven Belupo, attacking midfielder, 11 goal contributions in 16 Serbian League games, seasoned Croatian U21 international. Fits the bill as a super sharp Celtic midfield player.
Stije Resink, 22, £5m
Dutch midfielder is already captain of Groningen so is a real leader. Plays defensive midifield & has 7 goal contributions in 15 games. Looks an excellent midfield player. This one would only realistically be an option to replace Callum McGregor if McGregor moved on. If McGregor is staying for the foreseeable future don't see this one happening.
Fidel Brice Ambina, 24, £2m
Just recently called up to the Cameroon squad, defensive midfielder, 8 goal contributions in his last 26 games in the Norwegian top flight at Valarenga. Very good player & one to be signed up if the price is reasonable. Would also fit Nancy's prototype of being able to play 2 positions - centre back or midfield.
Lindon Emërllahu, 23, £1m
CFR Cluj midfielder, midfielder/defensive midfielder, 12 caps for Kosovo, 2024 Kosovo League team player of the year, Romanian Cup winner, 6 goal contributions in last 16 games in the Romanian League. Again if the price is right, this lad fits the bill perfectly as a prototype Celtic midfielder.
Adrion Pajaziti, 23, £750k
Born in London & well schooled in the Fulham youth acadamy. Albanian international defensive midfielder with 5 caps, who is playing regularly & well for Hadjuk Split at the top of the Croatian League. Very dependeble midfield player who fits the bill.
