Citation:Saint Line Ltd v Richardsons, Westgarth & Co (1940) 67 Ll.L.Rep. 62, EWHC
Rule of thumb:What is the number 1 rule in damages awards? It is only ‘direct damages’ which can be compensated for, and not ‘indirect damages’ IF damages seem too remote from the actual incident then these are not covered.
Judgment:
‘Direct damage is that which flows naturally from the breach without other intervening cause and independently of special circumstances, while indirect damage does not so flow’, Atkinson J. at 103
